chapter one -
Froststep hissed in pain as she munched on borage Minnowheart had given her.
"Listen to me, Froststep, just push, it's going to be alright," Minnowheart assured her.
Froststep nodded in agreement but said nothing. As she pushed, a silver kit came out. Berrypaw, the medicine cat apprentice, quickly came over and licked the kit. It was a she-kit.
"Just like her father," Froststep said quickly. Her mate, Nightshadow, looked up at her with big, gleaming eyes.
Froststep then got ready for another push.
Another kitten was on the way.
As Berrypaw swiftly fetched more borage, Froststep began to push.
After a few moments, a handsome sleek white kitten came out. Nightshadow held his son in his paws and licked him.
Froststep took a deep breath and smiled at her two, healthy kits.
"They sure are great additions to the clan," Berrypaw mewed. "I'm sure they will be great warriors."
Froststep nodded. "Thank you, Berrypaw."
Suddenly, Froststep's eyes widened. "Minnowheart?"
"Yes?"
"I don't think I'm done."
Berrypaw ran over with extra borage and set it in Froststep's mouth.
As Froststep gulped it down, she began to push. The pain rolled through her body like thousands of little thorns.
"Harder!" Minnowheart hissed, nervously.
Froststep pushed harder.
"Harder!" Minnowheart screamed.
"I can't! I can't!" Froststep yelped in pain.
"Yes you can! Just relax," Minnowheart mewed. "Berrypaw, get more borage!"
Berrypaw nodded and brought over more borage. She fed it to Froststep.
After many minutes of pushing, the kit finally came out.
Froststep opened her eyes in satisfaction. The pain was finally over.
When she opened her eyes, she was surprised to see Minnowheart's sobbing face.
When Froststep looked over at her third kit, she was shocked.
Her kit had three legs.
"I'm sorry, Froststep." Minnowheart said, frowning.
Froststep gasped. "Is he dead?"
Minnowheart nodded. "No, but he isn't going to be like the other warriors."
"How so?" Nightshadow asked.
"Well, for starters, many kits would make fun of him.."
Froststep glanced over at her disabled kitten. He was greeting his brother & sister like nothing was wrong, sniffing each other and hopping on three paws.
"Nonsense," Froststep snapped. "He's a normal kit."
"And if anyone treats him any different they will be dealing with me," Nightshadow growled. "Clan kin or not!"
Froststep frowned, trying to change the subject. "Well, are we going to name them?"
"You can name the first one," She continued.
Nightshadow padded over to the silver she-kit.
"She will be called Cloudkit."
"I love it," Froststep grinned.
"The white tom will be Snowkit." She added. "The last one.. The unique one.. We will name together."
Froststep looked down at his blue, shiny eyes.
"Bluekit?" Froststep suggested.
"No," Nightshadow. "It's got to be something unique. Something different. Just like him."
"Talonkit?" Froststep suggested, once more.
"Yes, That sounds excellent," Nightshadow exclaimed. "Talonkit it shall be!"
"Cloudkit, Snowkit, and Talonkit.." Froststep whispered. "May Starclan lay into your tiny, gentle paws.."

Chapter 2 -

A few moons have gone by and the kits have grown faster than weeds. It was around sun-high, and the kits were resting in the nursery.
Froststep frowned.
"What's wrong?" Nightshadow asked her.
"The kits.." Froststep murmered. "The kits, they need to see the world.. Instead of being locked up in this nursery.."
"Oh Starclan! What are you talking about! They've been outside the nursery several times before."
Froststep lowered her head, completely ignoring her mate. "I'm a horrible mother."
Nightshadow rolled his eyes. "Then why don't you bring them outside, then?"
Froststep's ears perked. "Oh really? And do what? Have them be crushed by monsters.. Or taken by a hawk.. Or drown in the river? Or get lost in the forest.. Oh, and ma-"
Nightshadow rolled his eyes. "I'll take them."
And before Froststep could reply, Nightshadow had already stormed out the nursery with his three kittens by his side.
"What are we doing, Daddy?" Snowkit asked, nudging her soft, silver head into her father's back.
"We're just going for a little stroll, that's all." Nightshadow replied.
"But mommy says that's not safe!" Snowkit gasped. "She told us stories of little kits like us wondering off and getting lost in snowstorms!"

Chapter 2 Continued

Nightshadow sighed. "Those stories are true. But those kits were naughty, they ran away from their mothers and fathers and it got them into trouble. If we all stay together, nothing will happen to us."
Cloudkit groaned. "Can you tell Talonkit to move faster? He's slowing us down!"
Nightshadow looked back at his handicapped son, happily hopping along a few feet behind the others.
"He's fine." Nightshadow replied quickly.
Cloudkit shot a disgusted look at his brother.
The family trotted along for a few more minutes, but something suddenly stopped them.
A kit's loud yelp was heard. It was Talonkit, and a thorn was stuck in his paw.
"Ouch," Talonkit cried. "Daddy! Help! My paw hurts! I think I got bit by a hawk."
Nightshadow ran back and examined all of Talonkit's paws. He pulled the thorn out of his paw.
Talonkit grinned. "Thanks!"
Talonkit padded over to Cloudkit. "Hey Cloudkit! Guess what! Daddy's my hero! He got that hawk out of my paw! I'm all better now and i can walk with you guys!"
"You didn't get bit by a hawk, you mouse brain!" Cloudkit mewed, sarcastically.

Chapter 3 -

"Well it hurt like it did!" Talonkit giggled, as Nightshadow continued walking. Talonkit hopped along next to his brother and sister.
Cloudkit rolled his eyes. "You got a thorn stuck in your paw, you moron! If you were normal, you'd know that!"
"What do you mean? I'm normal. I'm just like you and sis!"
Cloudkit snapped. "Your not normal! Your nothing NEAR normal! See your paws?"
"Yeah! Aren't they great? I can walk with those." Talonkit grinned.
"Look, Am I going to have to spell this out for you? YOU CAN'T WALK. You are missing a paw. See?"
Talonkit looked down at his paws. Then he looked over at his brother's.
There was a difference.
Nightshadow looked back. "Cloudkit, stop being mean to your brother, this instant!"
Cloudkit's eyes drooped, then he suddenly squinted his eyes at his brother. He whispered,
"See! Your not like us. You'll never be like us. You'll never become a warrior! You wanna know why? Because you won't be able to hunt!"
Talonkit's face turned red. "I'm sorry, bro. I'm sorry that I'm different!" Tears rolled down his face as he turned around and starting running through the forest.
"See what you did, Cloudkit!" Snowkit scolded. "You made Talon run away!" "So?" Cloudkit shrugged. "He wasn't good for anything anyway."

Chapter 3 - continued.

Snowkit frowned. "I really hope your happy." She said, as she ran up to catch up with Nightshadow.
Snowkit poked her father with her paw. "Daddy?"
"Yes, Snowkit?"
"Um, Talonkit ran away."
"Run? He can't run."
"You know what I mean! He hopped fastly! Cloudkit made him sad and he ran off! We have to find him dad! I'm not joking! Listen to me, please!"
Nightshadow turned around, to make sure that Snowkit was telling the truth. "Oh no," Nightshadow mumbled as he starting running into the forest. He gestured everyone to follow him.
"Did you have something to do with this, Cloudkit?" Nightshadow asked, sternly.
"No, I swear to Starclan."
